My Data Collection

I decided to collect data from my field placements about the safe seat by interviewing two of my host teachers and six students, three males and three females. I wanted to hear what they thought and felt about the safe seat.  I gathered a lot of valuable information about the safe seat from my interview with my second grade host teacher. She was very positive about the safe seat, telling me how it can be used as a space where students can calm down and even to continue to work while removed from a distracting environment. My interview with her made me reflect on how I have seen the safe seat used by my host teachers this year. They have not used it very often and students have never been as upset nor sat as long as I observed during my junior year. I am wondering if my negative view of the safe seat came from how the two teachers I worked with my junior year implemented it in their classrooms. I am also wondering if it is possible for the safe seat to be used in the same way by all teachers in Columbia Public Schools.
