When I first began my search for literature on the topic of how to use the safe seat effectively, I was unable to find any articles related to the concept of the safe seat. I was unable to find information about the safe seat on the CPS website, and the few articles that came up when I searched were for middle schools. This confused me: if the safe seat is present in every elementary classroom, shouldn’t there be information about it for families on the website? When thinking about how I could learn about the safe seat, I realized that the way I was seeing the safe seat used was like a time-out chair. I decided to look for articles on time-out in early childhood education. I also researched Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) because it is used by CPS.
